Mobile Phones and Travel Sims

Each student and adult MUST have a working mobile phone for use overseas prior to going on the tour. All mobile phone numbers will be recorded by teachers prior to the start of the tour.

It is imperative that students can be contacted by phone if they become separated from the group or they are late to a meeting point. They must have a travel sim that is suitable for Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. Alternatively, they can use their own mobile phone on an international roaming plan to make and receive calls and send texts. It is not necessary for them to have data download as the hotels will have wifi to send emails and browse the internet.

The following links to major phone companies outline their International Roaming Plans:

Travel sim cards are pre-paid and have low rates for international phone calls. They cost around $25-$60 or more depending on the data limit, and then various amounts to load the card. The travel sim cards can be purchased from mobile phone dealers, supermarkets, Flight Centre, travel agents and online.
