Dinner with a Train

Tonight we dined at a themed restaurant on Wenceslas Square. It is called the Vytopna Railway Resturant where model train track interweave across the entire restaurant and ending at each table. The drink service was brought to the tables via the train.

Happy birthday Jo

Ahoj to Prague

On arrival this afternoon, we settled into our new accommodation at the Ibis Wenceslas Square and then put on our walking shoes and headed to the Alfons Mucha Museum. Mucha is a famous Czech artist known for his graceful posters of women in his Art Nouveau style. His posters often advertised a theatrical event or a product. His linear designs of women with curvy flowing strands of hair were a hit with our group, buying an assortment of souvenirs from the gift shop.

Afterwards we visited the Hamley Toy Store, a visually exciting place much like Disneyland come Luna Park. Lots of interactive games and devices to try before you buy.

Dresden Stop Off

We left the exciting city of Berlin with all its construction and street art and headed south towards the Czech Republic border.for a short break from the bus ride, we stopped at Dresden, a city of ornate buildings and museums with a castle wall and moat.

Blue Men in Berlin

On our last night in Berlin we saw the amazing Blue Man Group in the Potzdamer Platz entertainment district. It was visually exciting, funny and quirky and combined a rock concert with comedy, lots of audience interaction and a dance party.  A must to see!

Bears feature everywhere around Berlin...these ones took on the guise of the Blue Man Group!

Playing the plumbers pipes like the Blue Man Group.

The Blue Men met up with the audience outside but they were still in their acting role.

Afterwards, we dined at the Lindenbrau Restaurant in the Sony Centre complex at Potsdamer Platz

Jewish Museum

The Jewish Museum is an award winning architectural design that not only exhibits German Jewish history and documentation leading up to and during WW2 but also emotionally effects visitors in its design making them feel uncomfortable and experience the emotions Jewish people had faced.

The Axis of Exile garden was claustrophobic with unevenly laid cobble stones making you feel trapped, lost and confused.

The Fallen Leaves installation consisted of masses of metal disc faces piled on the ground. Each face was unique in its design with screaming mouths. The sharp clanging sounds caused by people walking on them was uncomfortable and eerie.

Art at the Berlinsche Gallery

On a balmy spring day in Berlin, we spent our day investigating contemporary and modern art at the Berlinische Gallery, especially a retrospective exhibition by Paolozzi.

Berlin from the Reichstag

Our Tuesday evening was spent dining at the famous Ampelmann chain store restaurant at Statdbanbogen (ampelmann being the traffic light figures symbols for walk and stop) and then visiting the Reichstag dome to see a panoramic view of Berlin.

...and the Brandenburg Gate looked pretty stunning at night time as we found our way back to the hotel, weary after a long day.
